Before you begin: Make sure you are the Administrator of the laptop, or have the Admin password to “Run As” the install files. Guide to Installing SDDS and OAG Simulation Software on Windows Computers: http://www.aps.anl.gov/Accelerator_Systems_Division/Accelerator_Operations_Physics/installationGuide_WIN32.shtml The guide above contains 4 steps. In Step 1A we require the download of: 1. SDDS Toolkit.msi 2. Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable Package 3. Elegant.msi The download links will require you to enter your Name/Email to “Request Download Key”. The Key is good for 30 days. You can use the same Key to download all the files. Some browsers may not recognize Elegant.msi and give a security warning. You’ll need to tell it to “Run Anyway”. Use all default settings during installation. Steps 1B is recommended. Step 1C is not strictly necessary but it may be useful. Step 1D is necessary (Cygwin) - Choose Install from Internet. (You'll need an Internet connection during installation.) Step 1E can be skipped. Step 2 says that you need to reboot several times, however I did not experience this. Step 3 There may be some typos in the instructions. To get this to work I had to: - replace “cd /c” with “cd c:” - and replace "cygwin” with “cygdrive” for the ln command To create the .bashrc file you can copy/Paste this line: echo 'PATH="$PATH:.:/cygdrive/c/bin"' > .bashrc (Step 4 is not needed if Step 1C was skipped) The Elegant forum is a useful resource for additional info: https://www.aps.anl.gov/Accelerator_Systems_Division/Accelerator_Operations_Physics/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=11
