Fundamentals of High Current Beams and Induction Power Systems
Hugh Kirbie and Yu-Jiuan Chen, Lawrence Livermore National Lab
This course is a comprehensive survey of high-current electron beam accelerators that begins with an historical overview of induction accelerators and ends with a summary of new research frontiers in accelerator technology. Nearly half the course will be dedicated to an in-depth study of beam transport and methods for the design of induction linacs. The subject of pulse power for induction accelerators including the operation of liquid-filled pulse-forming lines, spark gaps, magnetic switches, and solid-state devices will be studied. A knowledge of electromagnetism is a prerequisite.
